Our Logs:
The Chosen Few

You cannot cut down a majestic 130-year-old tree without first showing reverence for its long life. It has played its role in the natural cycle perfectly. It has been host to generations of woodland creatures and has spread its helicopter seeds far, ensuring the forest’s ongoing vitality.

We honor our wood through every step of our process.

With painstaking care, we chose the ideal location for the cut and fell the tree to the forest floor. From there our expert loggers set about removing the limbs so that the entire trunk can be skidded out to a forest clearing called a log landing.

Logs are cut from the trunk in lengths of  8'9", 9'6", or 10'6".  Each log is scaled for volume and graded. While all the timber is put to good use, for our custom spalting we only employ the highest quality wood.

These selected logs are stacked and trucked from the log landing to the Vermont Wildwoods aging facility, called a Spalt Thicket. This is where the transformation from high-grade maple log into designer spalted maple veneer begins.
